"Government should operate like a business… with a focus on eliminating waste, cutting costs, and providing better services for our customers… YOU… the taxpayers."

Leadership

Leadership is more than vision. It’s seeing what the future should be and making it a reality. Ten years ago, if you wanted a copy of your deed, you had to take off work, drive into the city, find a parking spot, and trudge into the courthouse. Today, thanks to Steve’s paperless office, you can get a copy of your deed in your pajamas from the comfort of your home any day of the week with just an Internet connection. Ten years ago, the cost to get your deed was a half day's pay, parking fees, user fees, and copying fees. Today, it’s totally FREE.

Steve will take his result-focused leadership style to Harrisburg. It’s time to shake things up in Harrisburg, and that’s exactly what Steve will do.

Public Service

Perks, pensions, and midnight pay raises. That’s what defines Harrisburg today. When Steve took office ten years ago, he was offered a similar big, fat, government pension. Steve said “No way!” While fighting perks is popular today, ten years ago Steve was a lone voice standing up for the taxpayers. Steve knows you agree that our tax dollars shouldn’t be used to pay public servants a salary long after they’ve ended their time in office. Being a State Senator should be about public service—not about self service. It’s public service that has defined Steve’s time as an elected official.

Fiscal Responsibility

Ten years ago, Steve walked into a Recorders office that had changed little since 1957. Little except for the higher fees and bigger backlogs. Since taking office, Steve cut all user fees to their legally allowed minimum, cut staff by 50%, reduced office space by 25%, privatized services, and most importantly, has created a paperless government office. Work that used to get done in weeks now takes minutes. But that’s not all. Steve led the charge to fight the Pennsylvania Judges computer slush fund. In 2005, Steve was the only county official to stand up and put a stop to an $8 million property tax increase for Lancaster County taxpayers. As a fiscal conservative, Steve’s actions speak for themselves.

Families

Steve is proud to be a pro-life conservative. He helped to lead the effort to stop Planned Parenthood from building an abortion clinic in downtown Lancaster. As an adopted child himself, Steve is a strong advocate for adoption. Steve knows that strong families make strong communities, and thanks to his initiatives as Recorder of Deeds, there’s now an entire industry where Moms and Dads can work at home using nothing more than an Internet connection. Steve and Lisa have been married for over 23 years. Steve believes that marriage is between a man and a woman and will fight for legislation to protect the sanctity of marriage.

Eminent Domain

The right to use your property as you see fit has always been part of the American dream—until now. Amazingly, government bureaucrats believe that they know better what to do with your property than you do. Restoring and protecting the fundamental right of using your own property and determining your own destiny will be Steve’s highest priority as he fights for a more prosperous Pennsylvania.

Gun Rights

Article 1 Section 21 of the Pennsylvania Constitution:
“The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the state shall not be questioned.”

What part of “shall not” is so hard for liberals to understand?
